24 Chinese scammers deported Saturday

MANILA, Philippines—Twenty-four Chinese nationals who posed as tourists when they arrived in the country last month will be deported to China on Saturday after they were arrested by Philippine authorities during a raid last week in Angeles City, according to the National Bureau of Investigation.

Lawyer Daniel D. Daganzo, head of the NBI-International Operations Division, said the Chinese nationals were suspected members of an international syndicate engaged in telecommunications, Internet and credit card fraud.

The Chinese nationals reportedly victimized Chinese nationals in mainland China using the Philippines as their base of operations.

“The syndicate victimized their own compatriots by pretending they were policemen or prosecutors out to arrest them over fabricated financial fraud cases,” Daganzo said.

The Chinese tourists were arrested last Aug. 1 by NBI agents during a raid on two houses inside an exclusive subdivision in Pampanga.
