Nineteen-year-old Philippine native Miguel Calayan won the Best Documentary at the 5th Annual Epidemic Film Festival held by the San Francisco-based Academy of Art University earlier this year.

Calayan’s winning piece was entitled “Life Afloat,” a documentary about gymnast Meghan Miller who chases her dream of joining the circus.

It’s Calayan’s second win. Last year he bagged the same award for his work “Larry Hunt: Bucketman,” a piece about a local San Francisco street drummer.
