OVERLAND PARK, Kansas –“Fiesta Filipina,” a two-day festival featuring authentic Filipino food, dances, live music, exhibits and games will commemorate Philippine Independence, on the weekend of June 14-15 (Saturday 12 to 8 p.m.; Sunday 12 to 6 p.m.) at the recently renovated Filipino Cultural Center, 9810 W. 79th St. in Overland Park. Admission is free.

“Fiesta Filipina,” organized by the Filipino Association of Greater Kansas City, dates back to 1975 when former Mayor Charles Wheeler officially declared Filipino Week in Kansas City. It has grown to become an annual must-do event for hundreds of attendees.

The Filipino Association is a not-for-profit, non-political and non-sectarian organization established to “preserve, promote and enhance Filipino culture” through education and cultural arts and to provide service to the community at-large through its projects and programs. www.filipino-association.org
