After a month of surveillance, Kenny Chua, 43, was caught by authorities in a daylight buy-bust operation near Greenhills Shopping Center on Annapolis Street, police said.
Chua was caught carrying eight kilos of suspected high grade shabu or methamphetamine hydrochloride with street value worth P30 million, police said.
Police Director Benjamin Magalong, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief, said in a press briefing hours after the arrest that it took them a while before establishing a transaction with Chua.
The arrest was made by the combined forces of the CIDG’s Anti-Transnational Crime Unit (ATCU) led by Senior Superintendent John Guyguyon and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
As Chua was presented to the media, the Hong Kong national covered his face while he wailed.
Magalong said authorities had to refer to his driver’s license to identify Chua “because he was pretending he cannot speak in Filipino.”
He is currently detained at the ATCU-CIDG inside the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
The suspected shabu seized from Chua will be turned over to the PNP Crime Laboratory for examination.
Chua is facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002.
