New consul visits top Carson City officials, discusses sister-cities potential
• Southern California city has 17,000 Filipino residents, a Fil-Am mayor pro-tem
CARSON CITY, California – Newly posted Philippine Consul General to Los Angeles Leo Herrera-Lim recently paid a courtesy call on Mayor Jim Dear and Mayor Pro Tem Elito Santarina at Carson City Hall.
Herrera-Lim and the Carson officials discussed reviving sister-city relationships between Carson and Philippine cities, to tap renewable energy and facilitate the deployment of teachers. The City of Carson’s first sister-city relationship was forged in 1972 with Sinait, Ilocos Sur, and in 1988 with La Carlota.
Mayor Dear and Mayor Pro Tem Santarina informed Consul General Herrera-Lim how the City of Carson has transformed from a bedroom community into an industrial city with future aims to become a destination city.
Herrera-Lim took the opportunity to invite Mayor Dear to join the 9th Ambassadors/Consuls General and Tourism Directors Tour with the basic tour beginning from 28 to 31 July 2014.
