SUICIDE

A 24-YEAR-OLD man was discovered hanging dead in his house in barangay Lahug, Cebu City, past midnight yesterday.

Vincent Plantar, a native of Carmen town, Bohol province, was found by his neighbors in sitio Upper Son-oc hanging from a beam in his room with a nylon rope tied around his neck.

Paramedics arrived and tried to revive the man but to no avail.

Police said the man had a misunderstanding with his girlfriend working abroad, which may have drove him to commit suicide./CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON

FARMER KILLED

A FARMER was shot dead in his farm in barangay Gimamaa, Tuburan town, northern Cebu, on Wednesday morning.

Police said Henry Banos, 50, was found by neighbors in his farm with a gunshot wound in the back.

JOAVAN: NOT GUILTY

JOAVAN Fernandez pleaded not guilty to charges of illegal possession of firearms and a violation of the election gun ban.

Joavan, the adopted son of Talisay City Mayor Socrates Fernandez, was arraigned yesterday by Regional Trial Court Judge Douglas Marigomen of Branch 5.

He was assisted by his lawyer George Bragat.

The case stemmed from a road rage incident between Joavan and businessman Vincent Castrodes in Talisay City.

Joavan was accused of pointing a pistol at a motorist after a near-collision of their vehicles.

Police discovered a .45-caliber pistol, several pieces of live ammunition, and a .45-caliber magazine and a holster inside Joavan’s vehicle.
