Romanian found dead in Cebu City apartment

CEBU City, Philippines—A 32-year-old Romanian national was found dead Thursday morning in an apparent suicide inside his room in a rented apartment in Cebu City.

The body of Alfred Csaba Bokor, 32, who was identified through his passport, was discovered by his Filipina live-in partner, Jessiel Ponting, inside an apartelle in Barangay (village) Calamba, Cebu City, said the homicide investigator, Police Officer 3 Ruth Bongo.

Bongo said a belt was found tied around Bokor’s neck and the other end of the belt was tied to the handle of a cabinet.

Ponting, 25, of Danao City, discovered Bokor’s body inside the room past 9 a.m. She also found a note bearing the words, “Bella (the name of their nine-month-old daughter), sorry and I love you so much.”

Ponting said she and her daughter slept at the servant’s quarters at 3 a.m. Thursday where she and Bokor had been drinking beer, because she was too sleepy to go to the master’s bedroom.

She added that she heard a loud sound at about 9 a.m. Thursday and when she checked the master’s bedroom, she found Bokor’s lifeless body.

Ponting said Bokor had been having financial problems and he had difficulty raising money for their daily needs.

His passport showed that Bokor arrived in Cebu on December 24, 2008, for a three-month vacation.

In March 2009, when his stay was supposed to expire, Bokor asked for an extension until April 21, 2009, based on the remarks posted by Bureau of Immigration and Deportation (BID) on his passport.

Since that day, there were no other comments made on Bokor’s passport.
