UC Irvine cultural night to dramatize clash of values in immigrant family

IRVINE, California — Kababayan at University of California in Irvine is hosting its 35th annual Pilipino-American Cultural Night (PACN) on Fri., April 18 at the Bren Events Center on campus.

One of the only student organizations to be able to fund and perform in the to “Aming Pangarap: Our Dream.”

Kababayan is the largest student organization on the UC Irvine campus and is now on its 40th year. It hopes the 35th production will resonate with audiences as it tells the story of “disconnect and struggle between Filipino-American children and their immigrant parents.”

How does a person deal with change? What happens when one’s life changes drastically? Maricris (Mia Celedio), the youngest of three daughters, must try and comprehend the revolutions in her life. In a story spanning two generations, Maricris learns that struggle and prosperity go hand-in-hand.

Through the experiences with her family–especially her ambitious sister Maribelle (Crystel Jugan) and lazy son Angelo (Trent Liu)–she learns that her experiences can transcend generations. More importantly, she learns that her experiences and lessons can be passed on, as long as her son is receptive for once.
