MANILA, Philippines – United States President Barack Obama signed Wednesday a law that would allow American taxpayers to claim deductions for donations they made to support rehabilitation efforts for the victims of Super Typhoon Yolanda (International Name: Haiyan).
The Philippine Embassy in the US said in a statement that Obama signed the Philippine Charitable Giving Assistance Act to allow American Taxpayers to continue making tax-deductible donations to “Yolanda” victims until April 15 this year.
The embassy said taxpayers who donated in this timeframe but have already filed their taxes can amend their tax returns to receive these benefits this year.
“The immediate signing by President Obama of the Philippine Charitable Giving Assistance Act underscores the importance of the US government places on the immediate recovery of typhoon-devastated areas in the Philippines,” Philippine ambassador to the US Jose Cuisia Jr. said in a statement.
