MANILA, Philippines — The Singapore Red Cross has donated US $50,000 (about P2.925 million) to Filipinos affected by Typhoon Carina (international name: Gaemi), according to House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Romualdez revealed this in a statement on Sunday as he expressed his gratitude to the Singapore Red Cross for the donation.

“I am sure that our people, especially those affected by the recent typhoon, deeply appreciate the kind gesture of our friends from Singapore. On behalf of our people and President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., thank you, Singapore Red Cross,” he said.
Romualdez also said the assistance would help alleviate the effects and damage caused by the floods and it would be coursed through the Philippine Red Cross.
“The intensified rainfall, floods, and landslides caused by the tropical cyclone have a devastating impact on families and communities. We are closely monitoring the situation and are in close communication with the Philippine Red Cross to ensure that our contribution provides the best support to the affected communities,” said Benjamin William, secretary general of the Singapore Red Cross.
In its latest data, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Typhoon Carina, Tropical Depression Butchoy, and the southwest monsoon affected 3,628,500 individuals or 971,667 families.
Of the affected people, 1,069,354 were displaced, with 168,933 staying in 1,025 evacuation centers nationwide and 900,421 taking shelter elsewhere.
Carina exited the Philippine area of responsibility last July 25, but its damage prompted the national government to place Metro Manila and other Luzon areas under a state of calamity.
