MANILA, Philippines — A Korean national wanted in South Korea for economic crimes was arrested at the country’s main international airport, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Thursday.

According to the BI in a press release, 54-year-old Ahn Youngyong was caught by authorities at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1.

Ahn tried to board a flight to Shanghai, China, the BI said.

“He was not allowed to leave and was instead arrested after his name prompted a hit in our derogatory check system indicating that he is a wanted fugitive in his country,” BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco was quoted as saying in the same release.

The BI said that a Seoul court issued an arrest warrant against Ahn for “marketing disturbance,” where he disseminated false information on the business of medical drugs, and caused the share price of the drugs to rise by a large margin.

Ahn was brought to the BI’s facility in Taguig where he will stay pending his deportation.
