Bureau of Immigration bust trafficking bid at clark

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) said on Friday that it apprehended a human trafficker who tried to accompany eight would-be victims to Israel.

According to the BI, the trafficker tried to board with the victims at the Clark International Airport on April 23.

The would-be victims told immigration officers that they were going to Israel on a pilgrimage, but later admitted that they will work as hospital and hotel cleaners with a monthly salary of P60,000 to P80,000.

The BI added that the recruiter allegedly worked as a travel agent.

BI chief Norman Tansingco said that the recruiter should be penalized.

“She should face what she did in court and must be jailed to serve as an example not to prey on the vulnerabilities of our fellow Filipinos,” Tansingco said.

Meanwhile, the eight would-be victims will receive assistance.
