Employer’s lapses, not Filipino workers, blamed for US oil rig blast

United States federal agency on Monday pointed to “failures” in workplace safety precautions of oil platform operator Black Elk and its contractors for the oil rig blast that killed three Filipino workers on the Gulf of Mexico last year.

Philippine Ambassador to the United States (US) Jose Cuisia on Thursday decried media reports saying that the “incompetence” and “poor English language proficiency” of Filipino workers could have caused the fire that hit an oil rig platform off the coast of Louisiana on November 16.
