Chinese fishing in disputed waters threatens PH marine life

The massive fishing operations of Chinese ships in the South China Sea could make the local population of sea turtles and giant clams extinct, a marine biologist said Friday.

Sea turtles freed; Chinese fishermen held

After rejecting China’s demand that its nationals be released, the Philippine National Police brought criminal charges against 11 Chinese fishermen caught poaching more than 500 marine turtles in the disputed West Philippine Sea off Palawan province and freed the turtles.

Sailors rescued more than a hundred sea turtles from poachers but Chinese nationals who were allegedly buying the endangered animals escaped, the Navy said on Friday.
