Eight distinguished “freedom fighters,” including former US President James Earl “Jimmy” Carter, will be honored on Aug. 21 by the Ninoy Aquino Movement (NAM) during the group’s commemoration of the 31st death anniversary of the late Senator Benigno Aquino Jr.

DFA priority: Peace in disputed sea

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Sunday its priority in the remaining two years of the Aquino administration would be “to ensure the peace in the West Philippine Sea” amid rising territorial conflicts with regional giant China.

Expressing concern, President Aquino on Thursday said Chinese ships were moving around other reefs in the West Philippine Sea possibly to reclaim land, but he vowed to see through a peaceful resolution of the country’s territorial dispute with China in the United Nations.
