The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Tuesday defended its vote in favor of the UN General Assembly resolution upgrading Palestine’s observer status at the world body.

The Philippines was one of the 138 countries that voted in favor of a UN General Assembly resolution upgrading Palestine’s observer status in the world body.

The Philippines on Friday lauded the decision of the United Nations (UN) to recognize a Palestinian state, saying that the country supported Palestine’s quest for self-rule and self-determination.

Foreign Secretary Albert del Rosario said Wednesday at least 12 of more than a hundred Filipinos in conflict-stricken Gaza strip want to evacuate as the international community intercedes to halt reciprocal firing between Hamas and Israel.

Two rapid response teams (RRT) have been sent to Egypt and Israel to assist in the possible evacuation of some 100 Filipinos and their Palestinian spouses in conflict-stricken Gaza, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said in a press briefing Monday.
