MANILA, Philippines -- (UPDATE 2) Another milk product has been tested positive for melamine, Health Secretary Francisco Duque said Wednesday, bringing the number to three of 52 products tested so far for the toxic chemical.

Duque said JollyCow Slender High Calcium Low Fat milk (1 Liter) contained 4 ppm (parts per million) of melamine, which was beyond the normal allowable limit of 0.5 ppm.

Duque said melamine was ingested usually as a result of leaching, or when a milk product mixes with its container during production.

Two other milk products that had tested positive for melamine were Yili and Mengyu.

“If you are a 50-kilogram person you can take 25 milliliters of melamine a day,” said Duque.

Duque said those that were found positive for melamine would remain banned in the market until they pass another round of tests by the Bureau of Food and Drugs.

Duque said these products could be sold in local markets again.

More results of tests taken on 100 more products from China, including canned meat, will be released next week, Duque said.

Duque reiterated that there have been no reports of melamine contamination in the country.

"Una, mga bata ay wala, matanda wala, wala pa report na may namatay [First, with children, then with the older ones, there have been no reports so far," said Duque.

Duque said an individual with a high intake of melamine would most likely have kidney problems, fever, blood in urine, pain in urination and must immediately consult a doctor.

He said that drinking lots of water could prevent melamine contamination.

Meanwhile, Bureau of Food and Drug director Leticia Gutierrez dismissed claims that the
department was to blame for the importation of China products containing melamine.

Gutierrez said the importer would usually go through a tedious process before getting a clearance, with the Bureau of Customs first sending product samples to BFAD.

Gutierrez said products like those that were found to have contained melamine could have passed through "unauthorized" means.

Duque and Gutierrez also reiterated their warning to all stores to follow the ban on melamine-positive dairy products or face charges.
