A Global Filipino Nation Conference from May 8 to 11 will be bringing together the largest assembly ever of overseas Filipinos, their families, friends and associates at the University of Makati.

Its theme, “Building the Global Filipino Nation for Effective Governance,” was arrived at in the consultative exchanges among concerned Filipino leaders at home and abroad in the past year.

Main conference convenors are investment banker, international development consultant and chair of the Global Filipino Coalition; Victor S. Barrios; engineer and OFW leader Jun Aguilar of the Filipino Workers Migrants Group; and Evelyn Singson, president of the Management Association of the Philippines and CEO of e-Business Services, Inc.

The main conference modules are: A. Economic – to develop sustainable market-based funding and mechanisms for micro and small enterprise financing and development; B. Social – to develop a program and mechanism to redress prioritized urgent issues facing migrant workers; C. Political – to mobilize overseas Filipinos for a strategic role in nation-building and effective governance for the welfare of all Filipinos at home and all over the world.

The conference will have special modules in A. Culture and the Arts; B. Youth Empowerment; C. Innovation and Technological Collaboration to give insights into wealth creation in the U.S. and worldwide, jumpstart Philippine innovation and sketch out a roadmap to Silicon Valley success as well as identify Trans-Pacific opportunities; D. Political Governance to review, refine and adopt “The Gov. Ed PanlilioModel” for potential new political leaders; C. Media as Change Agent to organize leading Filipino media practitioners at home and abroad as an institutional force for effective governance and upgraded standards of journalism.

There will also be varied fellowship activities, a golf tournament, musical events, a job fair and a trade fair with booths and exhibits of commercial sponsors. A Manila Bay cruise is under discussion.

The organizers project 5,000 on-shore registrants and target 10,000 offshore participants. Clusters of overseas Filipino leaders will be linked by video to the plenary session, workshops and discussion groups to allow for real-time interaction. The organizers project 150,000 viewers offshore and 3.0 million onshore.

Government, business, NGO, academe and media leaders will be invited.
