MANILA, Philippines?Gene Alcantara, a Filipino-British national, is running as independent candidate for the House of Commons in the United Kingdom parliament.
UK will hold its elections on May 6.
Alcantara, who seeks to represent Hampstead and Kilburn in Northwest London, is an immigration case worker who has been a champion of diversity and migrant rights for many years.
He said his platform rests on representing the migrant, whether Filipino, Russian, Spanish, or Polish.
?This is a huge opportunity for all the members and supporters of multicultural and migrant groups in the UK to bring their celebrations, issues, and concerns forward in parliament,? he said.
Of the estimated 200,000 Filipinos in the UK, about 90,000 are permanent residents.
