MANILA, Philippines?Fresh from hosting a global meeting last week, Foreign Secretary Alberto Romulo is off to Turkey to make yet another bid to obtain observer status for the Philippines in the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its website said Romulo will pay a working visit to the country on March 23.
Romulo and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu will discuss bilateral relations and cooperation in international endeavors.
?In this context, the application of the Philippines to the OIC for observer membership will be discussed,? the ministry said.
This was confirmed in Manila by Department of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Eduardo Malaya.
The current OIC secretary general, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, is from Turkey. Ihsanoglu was in Manila last week to attend the Special Ministerial Meeting on Interfaith Dialogue for Peace and Development of the Non-Aligned Movement.
