Embassy accepts Dutch Bike Grants proposals

MANILA, Philippines?The Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands here is inviting qualified and concerned organizations to submit proposals for Dutch Bike Grants as part of the embassy?s campaign to raise awareness on bicycle use and its benefits.

Organizations are called to submit proposals beginning Wednesday on how to utilize five Dutch Batavus Bicycles in an ?environmentally sustainable manner and?[how] to maintain them for a long period of time,? according to Tatine Faylona, senior political and cultural affairs officer of the Netherlands embassy.

Faylona said the competition was part of the ?Fiets on Earth Bike the Planet? project of the embassy in partnership with the Firefly Brigade, a volunteer group composed of biking enthusiasts.

Criteria for the proposals include: clear presentation of non-profit sustainable environmental advocacy and set of activities and strategies that the Dutch bicycles will highlight (40 percent); broad community participation in the activities and how this could be achieved (30 percent); and long-term maintenance and safekeeping plan for five Dutch bicycles (30 percent).

Qualified contestants must meet the following criteria:

* Filipino people?s organizations and non-government organizations, including academe-based organizations and media groups;

* Juridical personality duly-registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission or other government accrediting body;

* At least three of the organization?s members should register with the Firefly Brigade and will join the Tour of the Fireflies at Tiendesitas, Pasig City on April 18;

* Logistical capacity to receive and transport five Dutch Batavus bicycles immediately after turnover ceremonies also on April 18; and,

* Willingness to enter into an agreement with the Netherlands embassy to ensure the upkeep, safekeeping, and non-private use of these bicycles.

Proposals should be submitted in not more than seven pages, including the cover sheet, organizational profile, and other attachments. The text used in the proposal could be any font style but not be smaller than 12-point size.

The one-page cover sheet must include the following:
- Project title
- Project proponent/s
- Contact persons and position in the organization
- Mailing address
- Telephone and mobile numbers/Fax/e-mail addresses
- Brief project description (three to five sentences only)
- Project period

The organizational profile must contain the following:
- Name of organization
- Mailing address
- Website
- Registration details (SEC or other government accrediting body)
- Related programs implemented in the past or currently in progress

The embassy is also encouraging the use of recycle paper in the submission of proposals.

The deadline for submission of proposals is on April 9, Friday, at 12 p.m.
