MANILA, Philippines ? No Filipino was injured in the powerful earthquake which rocked eastern Turkey Monday morning, an official from the Department of Foreign Affairs said.
?The Philippine Embassy in Ankara informed the DFA that there is no reported injury or casualty among Filipinos during the earthquake that hit the province of Elazig in eastern Turkey,? said DFA spokesman J. Eduardo Malaya in a text message.
He added that most of the 5,500 Filipinos based in Turkey reside in the city of Istanbul and nearby areas.
At least 57 people have been reported killed while some 50 others were wounded after an earthquake, which measured 6.0 on the Richter scale and depth of about 5 kilometers, rocked Karakocan town in Elazig province at 4:32 am (0232 GMT).
