MANILA, Philippines?Repeaters dragged down the nursing board passing rate, Board of Nursing official Marco Sto. Tomas said Tuesday.
Only 37, 527 of the 94,462 who took the exam passed it, making for a 39.72-percent passing rate.
Among the 40,086 repeater-examinees, only 26.68 percent passed the exam, Sto. Tomas said, while the passing rate for the 54,360 first-time examinees was higher at 49.36 percent.
?The increasing volume of repeaters is dragging the passing rate down,? he said.
Repeaters can take the exam as many times as they want, unlike in the old nursing old, which limited the taking of the licensure test to three, Sto. Tomas said.
To correct this situation, he suggested that examinees be assessed first on their weak areas so that they may take refresher courses.
?What happens now is the examinees depend too much on review classes, which is not enough,? he said.
