MANILA, Philippines—South Korea has given the Philippines a Korean-made “Albert Weber” grand piano as part of the year-long celebration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Monday.
The piano was turned over by South Korean Ambassador to the Philippines Choi Joong-Kyung to Foreign Secretary Alberto Romulo. Raul Sunico, officer-in-charge of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, embassy and DFA officials attended the turnover last week.
The Philippines awarded certificates of appreciation to the embassy, as well as Daewoo International Co., represented by Suck Yong Park, for the company’s “valuable contribution” in the two countries’ friendship.
At the turnover, Korean pianists Sejung Park and Hyun Joo Lee performed Fantasia in F minor C and Opus No. 103 D.940 for four-hands by Franz Schubert. The DFA Chorale, on the other hand, sang Christmas carols Maligayang Pasko and Kumukutikutitap, to the accompaniment of the new piano.
Using the piano as metaphor, Romulo described the friendship and cooperation between the two countries as having grown “from the ‘upright’ to the ‘grand,’ embracing and encompassing the full spectrum of relations.”
The anniversary of diplomatic relations has been observed since February 2009.
