MANILA, Philippines ? The Bureau of Immigration celebrates its 69th anniversary on Friday with a series of activities to be capped by a visit by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who will unveil the marker and inspect the bureau?s newly renovated building in Intramuros, Manila.
Deputy commissioner Roy Almoro said Friday?s celebration will kick off with the conferment of awards and recognition by acting Justice Secretary Agnes Devanadera to the bureau?s outstanding employees.
Almoro said the celebration will center on the reforms that were introduced and initiated by Immigration Commissioner Marcelino Libanan, who assumed office two years ago.
On Monday, Libanan will preside over an annual conference of all the bureau?s alien control officers and the newly designated immigration area directors in the different regions nationwide.
During the meeting, the directors and control officers are expected to submit their accomplishment reports and their recommendations and feedback on the regionalization scheme that was recently implemented by Libanan.
The regionalization program, according to the bureau?s press statement, is one of Libanan?s centerpiece programs as it aims ?to bring the bureau?s services more accessible to foreigners in the provinces through the establishment of regional immigration centers headed by the immigration area directors.?
