MANILA, Philippines? The Philippines has donated $10,000 to the United Nations Flash Humanitarian Appeal for Gaza, according to Ambassador Erlinda F. Basilio, Philippine Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva.
In a dispatch to the Department of Foreign Affairs, Basilio said the Flash Appeal, issued in February by UN Undersecretary General and Emergency Relief Coordinator Sir John Holmes, is in support of the UN system?s efforts in providing humanitarian relief to the people of Gaza.
The conflict in Gaza earlier this year killed over 1,300 Palestinians, injured 5,300 and displaced tens of thousands. A number of Filipino nationals, married to Palestinians, were affected by the conflict.
Basilio said the Philippines supported the establishment of a Palestinian state side by side with the state of Israel.
