MANILA, Philippines ? The United States embassy in Manila said on Thursday it did not know the whereabouts of "Nicole," who American serviceman Daniel Smith was convicted of raping, and whose case tested the Philippine-US Visiting Forces Agreement.
Rebecca Thompson, embassy spokesperson, said in an interview that they were aware of media reports suggesting Nicole had already left for the US and recanted her previous testimony in the court, casting doubt on whether she was actually raped by Smith.
?We don?t have further information suggesting her whereabouts,? Thompson said.
She also refused to say anything about Nicole?s visa application.
?Everyday, people come here for visa application[s] and, for privacy reason[s], we don?t divulge details about them or their applications,? she said.
