MANILA, Philippines ? (UPDATE) Around 50 activists staged a noisy protest Thursday morning outside the Israel Embassy in Makati City to demand an end to attacks against Gaza.
The rallyists from the groups Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino (Association of Filipino Workers), Sanlakas, and Anak Mindanao (Children of Mindanao) waved the Jewish state?s flag close to the ground and threw shoes at it.
They arrived at the embassy on De La Rosa Street at 10:45 a.m. and chanted ?Israel terrorists? while waving banners with slogans like ?Free Palestine.?
Superintendent Gilbert Cruz, Makati police chief, said the protesters would be allowed to hold their rally until noon.
Around a dozen policemen were standing between the protesters and the entrance of the embassy.
Cruz said traffic has been ?slightly rerouted? for vehicles going to De La Rosa from Makati Avenue.
