MANILA, Philippines -- (UPDATE) The 14th ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Summit is "likely" to be held in March 2009, Thailand Ambassador to the Philippines Kulkumut Singhara Na Ayudhaya said Wednesday.

"It is likely to be postponed until March," he said during a press conference at the Thai embassy.

Ayudhaya also said Thailand is not giving up its hosting of the summit. Asked to react to reports that Singapore has requested the summit be held in Indonesia, the envoy said he has not heard of it.

Before it was dissolved by a Thai court on Tuesday, the Thai government postponed the summit. The court ruled that the government illegally used funds for the elections.

At a press conference, Ayudhaya said the decision on where it would be held and other details of the summit would be made once the new government and prime minister were selected.

He said the next important step in Thailand would be on December 8 when the members of parliament convene.

The ambassador said Thailand has the capacity to host the summit. He said his country was the first Asian country to host the Asia Europe Meeting and among the first to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation.

"We have a very good infrastructure and international convention centers, even in the provinces," he said.
