MANILA, Philippines -- The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) will conduct “refresher courses” for security personnel manning airport terminals to step up the campaign against illegal drug couriers sneaking dangerous drugs into the country, an official said on Thursday.
PDEA director Dionisio Santiago said the “extensive refresher courses” will be for personnel manning airport X-ray machines and other key security checkpoints in airports.
“PDEA will conduct an extensive refresher course for personnel...so that they can actually see and simulate different concealment techniques used by drug couriers to mask the presence of dangerous drugs in their baggage,” he added.
Santiago said the PDEA is also working on improved coordination with airport security personnel headed by Angel Atutubo, head of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Security Group.
The PDEA chief said the agency is also working to enhance coordination between international and local law enforcers in looking into the probable links between two Filipinos recently arrested in China and 69 others detained there for alleged illegal drug smuggling.
