STA. ANA, Pampanga-- The family of a Filipino caregiver shot dead by his 91-year-old ward in Seattle, Washington, on September 16, is appealing for justice.
"We don't know the procedure in the US but we hope justice comes his way," the younger brother of the victim, Ramoncito "Bong" Barro III, said on Thursday.
Ramoncito "Kokoy" Barro II spoke on behalf of his father, Ramoncito Barro, a former mayor of this town. "We are shocked," Kokoy said.
The elder Barro cried on learning of the death of Bong from the latter's wife on Wednesday.
Bong, 39, last came home for his mother's burial in November last year. An economics graduate, he had lived in the US, first in Los Angeles then Washington, for 14 years.
Bong had a license to run the adult care home in his house, his brother said.
The News Tribune reported that the suspect, Joe Conway Elder, 91, had been charged by Pierce County prosecutors with second-degree murder on September 17.
The charge sheet did not cite the motive for the shooting.
Citing the accounts of Bong's wife, Kokoy said his brother went to the room of Elder to prepare him for a scheduled medical checkup at a hospital.
The News Tribune said Elder shot Barro in the chest. The gun, a .38 caliber revolver, is registered to Elder.
The man had been in Bong's homecare for 10 months before the incident happened, it was learned.
