Arroyo shares table with Bush, Putin, Sarkozy

BEIJING, China -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo shared a table during lunch Friday with leaders of four of the five United Nations Security Council members, a Malacañang media officer said.

Arroyo sat United States President George W. Bush, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, and Chinese President Hu Jintao, who hosted lunch to welcome them to the Beijing Olympic Games, said Saul Pa-a who was the only one allowed at the Great Hall of the People where the lunch was served.

He said the President was the sixth person to Hu's left and the third head of state from the Chinese host.

The five persons between Hu and Arroyo are Hu's spouse Madame Liu Xongqing; Countess An Rogge, spouse of International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge; Putin; honorary IOC president Juan Antonio
Samaranch; and First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo.

To Arroyo’s left were Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jicchi and Japanese Prime Minister Fukuda Yasuo and his spouse.

The lunch table, which sat 26 people, had Bush and wife Laura to the right of Hu, after IOC president Jacques Rogge.

The lunch was served at the Great Hall of the People, which was emblazoned with red Chinese lanterns and ice carvings of the Beijing Olympic mascots, while the Chinese People's Liberation Army Orchestra played chamber music.
