MANILA, Philippines -- Three overseas Filipino workers sustained various injuries when their vehicle fell off a 12-foot-deep ravine on June 5, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday.

In his report to the DFA, Philippine Ambassador to Turkey Bahnarim Guinomla said Ryan Jay Nava Caguette, Vanessa Jane Napao, and Netchie Baje were traveling from Istanbul in Turkey to the coast to join their Portuguese-French employer in his yacht for a five-day cruise when the incident happened.

Guinomla said that while Caguette was slightly injured on the head, both Napao and Baje sustained more serious injuries, with Napao requiring surgery on her broken right elbow. Baje was also taken to the hospital with injuries on her face.

Quoting Caguette, the ambassador said their vehicle was driven by their employer's Turkish driver.

Guinomla said the employer, whose name was not available, paid the hospital bill of his Filipino workers and provided tickets for their repatriation as soon as they were fit and healthy to travel.

The embassy is coordinating with Turkish authorities as well as relatives and friends of the victims to ensure their welfare and return to the Philippines.
