MANILA, Philippines -- The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has set the application period for overseas Filipinos who want to vote in the 2010 presidential elections between December 1, 2008 and August 31, 2009.

The Center for Migrant Advocacy, which campaigned for the Overseas Absentee Voting Law, cited Comelec Resolution 8458 promulgated May 20, 2008.

"Please be advised of the resumption of the continuing registration/certification of qualified overseas absentee voters for purposes of the May 10, 2010 national elections. The period for filing of applications shall be from December 1, 2008 to August 31, 2009," CMA executive director Ellene Sana said in an e-mail.

The Comelec resolution is available at CMA's website.
