BEIJING -- No foreign casualties have so far been reported in the powerful earthquake that struck southwestern Sichuan province, killing more than 11,000 people, China said Tuesday.

"Up to now, we have received no information on any foreigners being killed or injured in the affected areas," foreign ministry spokesman Qin Gang told reporters.

In Manila, the Department of Foreign Affairs said it has not received reports of Filipino workers or migrants who were victims of the magnitude 7.8 quake. With a report from INQUIRER.net
