MANILA, Philippines -- Two Filipino bomb experts were killed in Qatar on April 28, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Friday.
In his report to the home office, Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Isaias Begonia identified the overseas Filipino workers Eldred Canuto Brinas, 51, of Iriga City, and Ramon Olaño Espiritu, 52, of Camarines Sur, both explosive technicians of the Internal Security Force of Qatar's Ministry of Interior. They died from injuries sustained while disposing of confiscated explosive materials (firecrackers) in the municipality of Dukhan, Qatar.
Begonia said the incident was being investigated by Qatari police. He said the remains of the OFWs were repatriated this Friday via Qatar Airways QR646 with an expected time of arrival in Manila at 3:30 p.m.
