MANILA, Philippines -- The body of an overseas Filipino worker was found by Hong Kong police in the northwestern coast of Lantau Island over the weekend, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Friday.

Quoting Philippine consul general in Hong Kong Alejandrino Vicente, DFA spokesman Claro Cristobal said the body was identified by a relative as that of Vicky Flores, 32, of Batangas.

He said nothing else about the circumstances surrounding the Filipina's death.

“The consulate has asked the police to conduct autopsy and further investigation. It has also referred potential witnesses to give statements to the police,” Cristobal said in a text message.

“Employer of deceased has offered assistance for repatriation of the remains after authorities complete their investigation,” he said.

Cristobal also said a sister of the deceased is now in Hong Kong under the care of the consulate.
