‘Power problem’ delays flights at RP domestic airport--MIAA

MANILA, Philippines -- (UPDATE 2) Less than a week since a power outage hampered its operations, the Manila Domestic Airport was struck by another ?power problem? Tuesday morning, causing a delay in some flights, airport authorities said.

Past noon, airport officials could not say yet when power will be restored at the Manila Domestic Airport as the newly installed circuit breaker supplying 100 percent of the facility's power requirement continues to fail.

Octavio Lina, operations chief of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), said airport officials have been working since before dawn to get the circuit breaker working. It had been installed late Monday to replace a circuit breaker that failed Saturday, causing a similar power outage at the terminal.

Computers, check-in counters, air-conditioners, fans, television sets, and the paging system are all down. Hundreds of passengers were left in a swelter although fluorescent lights and X-ray machines, however, continue to operate on limited back-up power.

A MIAA flight advisory said 19 Cebu Pacific flights and five Asian Spirit morning flights to key cities in the Visayas and Mindanao were delayed by 30 minutes to an hour.

An advisory the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) sent at 10:30 a.m. said: ?We are now experiencing technical problem at the MDA [domestic airport]. The airport management is doing its best to bring back normal operations within the day. As a result, certain flights have been delayed. Meantime, we advise passengers who have flights today to get in touch with their airline for any instruction [in light of] the present situation.?

The MIAA said passengers may reach the airlines through: CEBU PAC 702-0888; ASIAN SPIRIT 855-3333/851-8888; 853-1957; 514-4311; SEAIR 851-9876; 851-5555.
