MANILA, Philippines -- An Indian national suspected of heading a kidnap-for-ransom syndicate and a Taiwanese fugitive are set to be deported “for making the country a haven for their criminal activities,” Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Marcelino Libanan.
Libanan said Sukhdev Singh Bhangu, who allegedly led a syndicate victimizing fellow Indians, was caught in Mandaue City, Cebu on January 30.
“Bhangu, if convicted for the crimes he committed in the Philippines, would first have to serve his sentence in the country. After this, he will be summarily deported back to India for being an undesirable alien,” Libanan said.
BI spokesperson Floro Balato Jr. said Taiwanese Lu Shen-Pao was arrested in a beach resort in Currimao, Ilocos Norte last February 3 upon the request of Taipei Economic Cultural Office assistant Edward Lee.
In his letter to Libanan, Lee said Lu was a fugitive from Taiwan and wanted by the Taipei district court for “counterfeiting securities.”
“We warn felons, fugitives, terrorists and human traffickers: you have no place in our country,” Libanan stressed.
