Global Summit 2009 June 12, 2009 - June 15, 2009 Boston Marriott Cambridge Hotel, 2 Cambridge Center, 50 Broadway, Cambridge, MA 02142 Massachusetts, US On June 12 1898, Philippine independence was proclaimed against Spanish rule and the Philippine national flag was formally raised for the very first time. In 1946, the Philippines was granted independence from the US. And in 1986, the Filipino masses, through "People Power" aka EDSA Revolution, declared independence from the Marcos regime. In 2003, a rally for independence was once again set in motion. This time not against any foreign government or political leader, but independence against any political and self-righteous affiliation in efforts to heal a wounded nation against poverty and social injustice. The battle cry this time was not "down with…" but instead was "no one left behind" and hence the birth of Gawad Kalinga (GK), the organization, the movement, the lifestyle…1898, 1946, 1986, and 2003, milestones etched in Philippine history. And now, 2024, to come. The template GK started in the Philippines has gone global since. After all, poverty, has always been a global issue. You do the math. Find out the significance of 2024.
