Tacloban City ? The rains caused by tropical depression Urduja has resulted in a minor flashflood and a landslide in Liloan town, Southern Lyete, according to the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD).
Rey Gozon, OCD Eastern Visayas administrative officer, said yesterday that the landslide in barangay Guintungyan and the flooding in Barangay San Isidro, both in Liloan town, did not result in any damage to properties or casualties among the residents of the two villages.
Gozon also disclosed that about 263 passengers bound for Cebu were stranded at the Maasin city port as the Coast Guard did not allow any vessel to leave.
Cargos for roll-on-roll-off vessels and three vessels remained at the Maasin port as of Tuesday noon, he said.
There was no power interruption in any part of the region, Gozon added.
Classes in Tacloban City and other parts of Leyte were suspended due to tropical depression Urduja.
Tacloban City schools superintendent Ronelo Al Firmo announced over the radio that the classes in both elementary and secondary levels were suspended due to the typhoon.
A source at the regional office of the Department of Education, who asked not to be identified, also disclosed that the classes in Leyte and Southern Leyte were suspended.
