TACLOBAN CITY?The Leyte provincial agriculture office has recommended the lifting of the red tide alert in Cancabato Bay here, more than a month after the toxin's presence was discovered there.
Imelda Sievert, chief analyst of the Red Tide Laboratory of the Leyte provincial agriculture office, said the lifting of the ban would allow fishermen to gather all kinds of shellfish, particularly green mussels, in Cancabato Bay.
The red tide toxin was detected on Sept. 15 in the bay, a rich fishing ground around which are located several coastal villages of Tacloban. A ban on the gathering and selling of shellfish was imposed shortly afterwards.
