Iloilo City — The Cebu Regional Trial Court has allowed the suspected gunman of slain Aklan broadcaster Herson “Boy” Hinolan to leave the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) to register as a voter in his hometown in Lezo, Aklan.
Former Mayor Alfredo “Fred” Arcenio of Lezo town in Aklan was scheduled to leave Cebu today for Aklan after the Cebu Regional Trial Court Branch 16 on Oct. 26 granted his petition to leave the jail under escort by jail guards to register in his hometown.
Cebu City Assistant Prosecutor Gandhi Truja said the order required Arcenio to be returned to the detention facility within 24 hours after he has completed his registration.
Arcenio, a former soldier, has been tagged as the lone gunman who repeatedly shot Hinolan on Nov. 13, 2004 near a carnival in the capital town of Kalibo.
Hinolan, former station manager of dyIN Bombo Radyo in Kalibo and host of the station's morning program “Bombohanay Bigtime,” died two days after the shooting.
Arcenio has repeatedly denied involvement in the killing of Hinolan. The former mayor claimed that he was in Lezo town, seven kilometers from Kalibo, at the time of the incident.
