TABLAS ISLAND, Romblon—Continuous heavy downpour and strong winds brought by tropical storm "Feria" caused landslides and flooding, making roads impassable in several towns in Romlon province, a public works official said yesterday.
District engineer Rolindo Perez, of the Department of Public Works and Highways, said the roads in sitio Salinsing and sitio Bachawan in San Agustin town were declared impassable due to landslides around 10:30 a.m. yesterday.
The bridges of Magsupot, Calagunsaw and Agbunyog going to the airport in Alcantara town, were also impassable due to the overflow of water.
Looc and Alcantara towns were flooded in “waist-deep” floodwaters, Perez said.
San Agustin mayor Emmanuel Madrona said the whole island of Tablas lost its power supply starting 1:30 a.m. due to heavy rains. “Kapantay na ng pier ang dagat,” Nonong Navarette, a resident of the town, said.
“It is really like this whenever it rains hard. But typhoon 'Frank' was still worse,” he said. /Inquirer
