BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A prominent Negrense couple stranded in Thailand after protestors shut down the airport in Bangkok may finally be headed home on Monday.
Jose Ma. Villanueva, the president of First Farmers Holding Corp. in Talisay City, had gone to Thailand to attend an international conference Tuesday, accompanied by his wife, Edith, president of the Sugar Industry Foundation Inc.
Mr. Villanueva went to Bangkok to attend an international seminar on co-generation and ethanol conducted by FO Lichts, a German organization.
About two hours after they left the Suvarnabhumi International Airport for their Bangkok hotel, protestors took over the facility and shut it down last Tuesday night.
Edith Villanueva said on Sunday morning that they were getting desperate but finally, on Sunday afternoon, it looked like she and her husband would be able to get home soon.
Edith said she and her husband were already checking in at the PAL office in Bangkok for their land trip to Chang Mai for a PAL flight to Manila on Monday. /Inquirer
