ROXAS CITY, Philippines — The province of Capiz is soliciting the support of Western Visayas provinces in its bid to host next year's Palarong Pambansa (national games).
The Capiz provincial board, in a resolution passed May 8, formally sought the support of Negros Occidental, Iloilo, Aklan, Antique and Guimaras to host the event.
The provincial board also passed a separate resolution last week, asking President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to back Capiz's bid.
Capiz has the needed sport facilities to host next year's Palaro, according to board member Alfonso Bediones Jr., who authored the resolution.
The province has the Villarreal Stadium that has state-of-the-art equipment and a rubberized track oval, the largest in the Western Visayas region.
The province also has similar complex, the air-conditioned Capiz Gymnasium.
There is also the Dinggoy Roxas Civic Center that is secured and accessible to the general public, Bediones said.
Bediones also stressed that Roxas City, the proposed venue, has a sound peace and order track record and is excellent and conducive to a national activity like the Palarong Pambansa.
Governo Victor Tanco Sr. earlier said Capiz is ready, capable and willing to host the big sports event. /Inquirer
