ILOILO CITY—Boracay will host this week an international dragon boat competition that aims to bring in hundreds of rowers from at least nine countries.
The 2nd Boracay International Dragon Boat Festival, organized by the Boracay Island Paddlers Association (Bipa), the Malay town and the Philippine Dragon Boat Federation, would attract over 1,000 participants from Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and the United States.
Bipa president Nenette Aguirre-Graf said the expected number of participants this year would be about twice that of last year's competition.
Graf said the tournament would help boost tourism on the island since families and friends of participants would be coming to the island this week. /Inquirer
