CEBU CITY, Philippines – A Church-based group is encouraging the public to focus on the issues on graft and corruption and not on the personalities involved in the ongoing investigation of a scrapped broadband network deal.
The Dilaab Foundation warned the people about the danger of glorifying the personalities involved in the scrapped broadband deal.
“Right from the start we were uncomfortable about glorifying personalities. What we always said was for people to look at the issue,” said Father Carmelo Diola, overall coordinating steward of Dilaab Foundation Inc.
Diola said there should be restitution if someone confesses.
He was referring to Senate witness Rodolfo Noel Lozada Jr., who disclosed that government officials had asked for commissions in the scrapped $329-million broadband deal.
Lozada also confessed to committing acts of graft and corruption and marital indiscretions.
“We are not looking for perfect people. But what we are asking is, “Is the conversion for real or just for show?” asked Diola during the 888 News Forum held at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel in Barangay (village) Lahug, Cebu City on Tuesday. /Editorial Assistant Bernadette A. Parco
