Depleted Lexmark triumphs

/ 09:36 AM May 12, 2011

THE depleted Lexmark Stallions stunned the Qualfon Knights, 91-69, in the 2011 Powerade E-League for Basketball at the City Sports Club-Cebu Gym.

Lexmark was only allowed to field in seven players as a penalty for having just seven players during the opening day ceremonies. Teams are required to have at least eight players during the opening program last April.

The lack of warm bodies however, didn’t slow down the Stallions who never trailed after torching the Knights with a crippling 21-5 run in the first period.

Ellery Ariate and Seigfred Ofonda led Lexmark with 23 and 22 points, respectively.

Albert Shelby Johnston II led Qualfon with 16 points, Jopher Regidor added 11, while Ryan Abordonado had 10.

Meanwhile, defending champions Teletech Titans started their hunt for a second straight title with a 63-53 beating of Aegis People Support Vipers.

Sherwin Anghay led the Titans with 14 points, while Shem Japeth Banua and Raul Cabahug IV added 11 each. Clifford Amarado was the lone APS player in double figures with 15 points.

The Accenture Sharks tallied their first win in two games after routing the Kyocera Frontiers, 67-23 with Randy Bihag firing 20 points.

The lack of offensive firepower continues to hound Kyocera as, just like in its blowout 28-67 loss to the Wipro Wildcats, it had no player scoring in double figures. /EDITORIAL ASSISTANT CALVIN D. CORDOVA
