THE wait for Major League Baseball (MLB) legend Ken Griffey Jr. ends today as the prolific homerun hitter arrives in Cebu for a series of baseball clinics for players 6-9 years old over at the Fastball at the Aboitiz Sports Field.
Griffey, nicknamed ?Junior,? will be in Cebu as a sports envoy for the United States Department of State. He brings an impressive resume that consists of fifth place on the list of most career homeruns and is tied for the record for most consecutive games with a homerun.
Today?s clinic will involve 75 players and 25 coaches from Central Visayas and Southern Mindanao who has had limited exposure and little formal training in the sport.
Griffey will be in Cebu with his brother, Craig and another former pro Joe Logan of the Montreal Expos. The clinics for coaches will focus on teaching the basics of teamwork and sportsmanship, identifying and developing talent, and leading practices and clinics. The clinics for players will focus on developing fundamental baseball skills like hitting, infield, pitching, and outfield. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
